"CH2M HILL commends the Port of Los Angeles for continuing its leadership role in developing and implementing the cutting-edge strategies that will improve health and quality of life for local residents and reduce the environmental impact of port operations," says Jim Hunter, CH2M HILL's Los Angeles area manager. "We are proud to team with POLA as we embark on the next chapter of our 20-year history of serving the Port of Los Angeles."
New Air Quality Contract
CH2M HILL is one of five firms to receive a three-year contract for on-call air quality services. This contract continues the proactive steps taken by POLA to implement the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP), which was signed in conjunction with the Port of Long Beach in 2006. The CAAP describes the strategies the Ports will use to continue expansion to support commercial growth while reducing air emissions and health impacts to neighboring communities. The seven service areas provided under this contract include air emission inventory, review of the air quality portions of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, bay-wide health risk assessment, tracking and interpreting regulations, measuring emission of mobile sources, greenhouse gas inventory and reduction strategies, and evaluating and implementing emerging emission reduction technologies. Emission reduction strategies and technologies developed through this plan will be shared with local, state and national agencies.
New Environmental Site Assessment Contract
POLA has also awarded CH2M HILL one of seven on-call environmental site assessment contracts. Under this three-year contract, CH2M HILL will assist POLA with the prevention, investigation, and remediation of soil and groundwater contamination on POLA properties. Services provided will include environmental site assessments, soil and groundwater investigations, remedial investigations and feasibility studies, technical design, remediation, site closure reports and environmental compliance assessments. Over the last 10 years, CH2M HILL has completed 90 site assessment projects under similar contracts.
Renewal of CEQA/NEPA contract
CH2M HILL's current CEQA and NEPA contract has been extended for an additional year. Through March 2009, CH2M HILL will continue assisting POLA with the China Shipping environmental impact report/ environmental impact statement for a complex $100-million container terminal project near the communities of San Pedro and Wilmington.
These contracts are the next steps in CH2M HILL's 20-year history of serving the Port of Los Angeles.
