16 July 2007 — Bill McElroy's interest in water engineering began at age 9 or 10 when he was playing Army in his mother's backyard in Lakeland and water would seep into holes he dug in the ground.
"I'd dig a foxhole down 3 to 4 feet and I always wondered how the heck did it get there," he said. "But it started intriguing me."
McElroy's interest in how water moves through the environment would lead to a career in environmental engineering. He recently took over the top job in the Gainesville office of CH2M Hill from longtime mentor Dale Green, who is retiring.
